This is even worse when you realize that the Drill Shield has a slow auto-attack rate, Art animations, and cooldown. Although she has an Art with an aggro-drawing bonus effect, her base attack is the worst of any Tank and her critical hit tier is the third-lowest in the game, so she’s not a very strong damage dealer. Now while she’s amazing at taking hits, α’s not so great at the thing she needs first to take them: aggro. On top of all that, she has access to Topple. Combined with Tora having the highest HP of any party member, Poppi α can become near impossible to incapacitate with the right set-up. With the right Role CPU, she can have the highest combined defenses of any normally usable Blade, which ALSO gets a flat buff from her Affinity Chart. Her block rate tier is the highest in the game on its own, but it gets even better with the flat increase from her Affinity Chart, and if her health falls to 30% or lower, it only gets even higher, making her the best blocker in the game. While not overall better than Poppibuster, Poppi α is the best Blade in the game for sponge tanking. You do have to go out of your way to get equipment for her and search for specific secret treasure troves if you want that equipment to be good in the long run, but it's absolutely worth your time. She also has access to Aux Cores that no other Blade can have and her later two forms can even equip more than the maximum of the average Blade. You're allowed to change her element, Stat Mod, Blade Arts, and the bonus effects of her Specials. Poppi is by far the most customizable Blade in the entire game.
